2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Poor Feedback
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.
The president expressed that the team is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the full content from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the criticism to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having devoted the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most popular series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to persist observing the evolution of the game in the weeks to follow.
David

The appointee currently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a early access event. Initially, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every match. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or take a risk, risk it all, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos has not yet received an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can look forward to further news as development advances.
