A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a plethora of activities much better than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid arguing with relatives. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments came out during the break, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which might be a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
