Former Bengals and Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Farm Accident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering severe burns in an incident on his property near Burnet, Texas.
The Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was using a machine when it caught fire. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was not before he sustained severe burns over a significant portion of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who drove him to a nearby medical facility. He was then care-flighted to a hospital in Austin, where he is in critical but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Extent of Injuries
It has been reported that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to more than 20% of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is infection and pneumonia.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Football Journey
Shipley earned Associated Press All-America honors with the Longhorns in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he amassed 248 receptions for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over his professional career. His retirement came in 2014.
