Jim Gavin Leaves Irish Presidential Race Immediately
Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin has declared his withdrawal from the race for Ireland's head of state right away.
He was set to be among three contenders vying for Ireland's head of state, together with Independent candidate Catherine Connolly and Heather Humphreys of Fine Gael.
However, late Sunday he said via a statement that he "committed an error that was not in keeping with my character and his personal standards."
"After weighing these points, I have decided to leave the presidential election contest right away and reunite with my loved ones," he said in a statement.
