Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.

The organization did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
