Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the squad's 10-match winless start to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they start the search of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
