Seaside town killer's brother worried he would commit murder, hearing told
The older brother of the perpetrator said his mother and father "lost control" of their child and he feared his family member would fatally harm a individual of their relatives, a public inquiry has learned.
The attacker, aged 17 at the time, murdered three kids at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop on 29 July 2024.
The Southport Inquiry, conducted at Liverpool Town Hall, heard the sibling the older brother informed a close contact there was a risk of his brother "doing something potentially fatal."
The inquiry was told he told his contact over the digital service: "The fights are frightening because of the risk of someone dying."
Dion testified his sibling reminded him of the sociopathic murderer in the film the Coen brothers film.
Growing Tensions
Proceedings was told he was identified with a neuromuscular disorder at the early teens which resulted in him needing mobility assistance and his mother and father helping him more.
In response to the lawyer, counsel to the inquiry, if that changed his relationship he said: "Strain developed that came about."
He concurred his brother showed bitterness toward this shift.
He revealed to the investigation that after the household moved from Cardiff to their new location his sibling's temperament worsened and he would have "physical explosions."
The hearing learned the brother became "increasingly wary" of his brother, who would physically assault him frequently.
He stated: "I needed to be careful if I did speak to him because any disagreement could become an altercation."
'Real worries'
The brother testified his relative became increasingly physical after he was dismissed from Range High School in that region, in October 2019.
Dion departed for higher education in the following period and the siblings spoke less and less "due to unfamiliarity with having me around."
Proceedings was made aware of a note he sent to a acquaintance on the platform in which he stated his relative was angered by him speaking late at night because of the thin walls in their house.
He also told his friend there was a possibility of "his committing an act potentially fatal."
He said: "Confrontations are frightening because of the risk of a fatality."
The lawyer questioned: "You were genuinely concerned that your sibling would kill a individual of your household?"
Dion replied: "In case matters intensified to that level."
The lawyer questioned how his parents responded to the perpetrator's aggression.
"It was pointless to attempt to discipline him," he stated. "Also, there was a serious threat in proceeding that way.
"We said there was a overall danger to well-being in everyday talk, if you attempt to challenge him... it could provoke violence."
When the lawyer inquired if his mother and father had lost control of his sibling, the brother concurred.
When asked about his brother reminding him of a figure from the film the thriller, Dion stated: "I heard that persona's supposed to be a dangerous individual and that's why I used the word there."
The brother revealed the last interaction he had with his relative was in the summer of 2023.
He stated that their parents asked the attacker to take leave to him as he was leaving to see his associates and his relative hurled an object at him but the entryway shut before it struck.
