It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a squad that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batsmen to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was on her way.

"An opportunity to play and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself that way, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed her side required another 66 at one run per ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this tournament should hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this victory coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as skipper.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
