The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor to include fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles globally maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
