The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
